About Me

Hi,
Welcome to my blog.
As if you hadn’t already guessed (from the blog header or blog address) my name is Gary Packer.
By trade, I am a typesetter and graphic designer, and have been using computerized systems (as they were called when I was younger) all my working life. In the old days they were huge machines with paper tape whizzing through them and the output was on photographic bromide paper.
During my time at a London design studio in the late 80’s/early 90’s Apple Macs and modems were introduced into the scenario. A huge change to how graphic design and typesetting had operated previously. Everybody was learning Photoshop, Illustrator and other such programs and had access to huge stores of fonts. It was clear that the demise of old-school professional typesetters and graphic designers was imminent.
I hired a 486DX PC and began working for myself from home. I upgraded to a Pentium 1, at a huge cost, as soon as my own company had enough spare funds to do so. I was so busy I didn’t have time to educate myself on the power of the internet. My 14.4kb modem was unreliable, as was the phone line. I ended up saving my work on discs and driving them to clients or posting them.
Then came the birth of my son. I didn’t want to spend 20 hours a day in front of my PC. Always tired and no quality time with him. My life changed for the better. No longer a workaholic, I began to enjoy my life away from the PC and went back to college to study forestry/countryside management and became a tree surgeon.
I first became interested in Internet Marketing in 2002. This was in the form of selling physical goods on eBay (who hasn’t been on eBay???). It was an amazing experience. I bought wholesale items and sold them on and made a fair living doing this. I am still in touch with some of the people I sold to today.
I went to the US, primarily to visit a friend I had met on the internet. I bought a huge motorcycle and travelled America. Sadly, after six months, due to a family crisis, I had to come back.

Upon my return to the UK, I went back into tree surgery. Unfortunately, climbing trees and swinging about in them is a young man’s game. The years had taken their toll on my knees. My funds were too low to buy wholesale items again, not only that, but there was a lot of competition in the area I used to sell in.
After spending a lot of time researching Internet Marketing, I decided this was the way to make easy money. I joined forums. Joined mailing lists. Wrote some e-books. Spent a huge amount of money on get-rich quick schemes. Learned HTML. How to build websites. All to no avail. I just didn’t have the knowledge to get traffic to my websites or to build a list.
I blundered around, by myself, for a couple of years, trying desperately to recoup some of the money I had spent on totally and utterly useless information. Boy - was it a long, hard journey.
Out of the blue, what one would call a “Eureka” moment, I thought about having somebody who was successful on the internet coach me. My mentor.
I bought into a program. My hand was held every step of the way and I was literally shown how to do what I couldn’t do for two years - make money. Three days after launching my website, I had doubled my initial investment. I was pleased because there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
I can see a day, in the not too distant future, when I can continue with my tree surgery on a basis of “when I want to”.

Good Luck.
